Brougth to the notice of the Secretary of State of War

Changes to NZ Honours

Sister Kate Booth 22/194 & mid Certificate

If a subordinate officer or soldier performs a noteworthy action included in the report, he/she is said to have been "mentioned in despatches".

Soldiers who are mentioned in despatches, whilst not awarded a medal, receive a certificate and are entitled to wear a bronze oak leaf on the ribbon of the service medal issued to soldiers who served in a conflict.  If no campaign medal is awarded, the oak leaf is worn on the left breast of dress uniform.

Awards are published in the London Gazette

Change to NZ Honours: In 1998 the MID was, for New Zealanders, replaced with the New Zealand Gallantry medal. Ref: wikipedia.org

The notice of the Secretary of State for War (s)

Mentioned by Secretary for War for Valuable Services in United Kingdom is an award which is not recognised by a medal or emblem. The only recognition is by an (s) on the personal file of the recipient and probably by written communication.
