Matron Evelyn Gertrude Brooke 22/103became the first and only New Zealand nurse to be awarded the Bar to the RRC. By being awarded the Bar to the RRC Evelyn Brooke was in fact awarded the RRC twice.

For some time Matron Brooke's medal group were "lost" but have now been reunited to her family.

The article published in the NZMHS Journal tells the story.

Return of Medal Group to Family by Sherayl McNabb

The RRC was awarded to her - "In recognition of her nursing service in connection with the War." The Bar was awarded to her "In recognition of her valuable service with the Armies in France and Flanders."
